Annual General Meeting 2009

The 45th Annual General Meeting of the Old Drogheda Society was held on Monday 2nd November in the Governor's House , Millmount . Outgoing chairperson Sean Corcoran ,was returned to office with Mary  McDonough Malone re-elected as vice chairperson .Pat Hanratty stood down as Secterary and was replaced by Deirdre Russell, Pat agreed to remain on the committee . Seamus Dolan also stood down from the position of treasurer and was replaced by John McGovern , Seamus remains on the committee Pat Fulham was returned as President .Jim Gargan declined to go forward to the committee .

The chairperson outlined the activities of the Society over the past year .The Annual John Boyle O'Reilly School had the theme " To Hell or Barbados " dealing with the aftermath of Cromwell's sacking of Drogheda, and this proved to be a great success. The Annual Day Away was to Kilkenny , There were outings to Slane , The Phoenix Park and Collon . The Annual Weekend away was cancelled due to lack of numbers

There were some very interesting lectures including the History of Beekeeping by Philip McCabe , Living in a Martello Tower by Terry Prone , Boats on the Boyne was the annual Corcoran Garry Lecture and the 1948 film "A Bridge on the Ford " was shown

Millmount and the Museum also featured prominently during Drogheda Arts Festival and for Walled Towns day the Scociety organised live traditional music , dancing , craft and falconry displays which was attened by over 2,000 people .

The new military exhibition was launched in the Martello Tower and the two replica cannons unveiled . Brendan Matthews book "Towr of Strenght " was also launched

The treasurer Seamus Dolan gave a detailed financial report ,Outgoing Secretary Pat Hanratty read the minutes of last years meeting and Betty Quinn reported on the Corcoran Garry Schools programme . the Primary Schools programme and on marketing activities . John McGovern gave the Publishing Sub Committee's report and Deirdre Russell gave a report on behalf of the Monuments Committee
