The Old Drogheda Society hosted the second of its 2008 lectures on Wednesday February 20th in the Governors House , Millmount at 8pm , entitled "MILLMOUNT'S COSMIC ALIGNMENTS: NEW DATA" given by Anthony Murphy and Richard Moore, authors of "Island of the Setting Sun - In Search of Ireland's Ancient Astronomers",

The Martello Room in the Governors House was packed to capacity to hear the lecturers assert that Millmount mound is probably a Neolithic passage tomb, based on folk beliefs and evidence of astronomical alignments. Their book has been a tremendous success and, after just one year on the shelves, is sold out. During research work for a revised, expanded and updated second edition of "Island of the Setting Sun", to be published in early summer, the authors have uncovered more significant evidence about Millmount's place in the astronomical blueprint of the Boyne Valley area and beyond. For the first time, Anthony Murphy presented some of this tantalising new evidence to the public - at the very appropriate location of Millmount! Is Millmount part of the Brú na Bóinne complex, which includes Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth? Were the people who created the mound under Millmount the same master astronomers, surveyors and engineers who constructed the elaborate and sophisticated astronomical devices in the Bend of the Boyne? What is the significance of Millmount in the wider cosmic landscape?

Also featured on the night was l be a short preview of a recently-filmed documentary which features Anthony Murphy and Richard Moore and which will be shown on television stations across Europe this Spring. This proved to be a very enjoyable evening .
