Library & Archive - Research Centre

Brendan Matthews Librarian The museum houses an extensive archival library containing primary source material on the history, archaeology, folklore and the cultural heritage of Drogheda. It is also in the process of digitising a large amount of its holdings and acquiring major digital collections of all the relevant historical journals, newspapers and archives. The objective is to have every source you would need to research the history of the Drogheda area housed in one location.

There is also a collection of maps of Drogheda’s & Co. Louth, Church records, Workers Union and Rate books that contain the names and addresses of householders in the town from the late 19th century; again, a valuable source of information for the study of Genealogy and Community History.

Drogheda Museum Library & Archive can be visited by appointment, Mon-Fri 10.30am-5pm. Call 041 9833097
